Taking the Yachtmaster Coastal Exam

I’m traveling back from Plymouth having, early this morning, completed and passed my RYA Yachtmaster Coastal exam. It’s been a tough week with challenging weather that limited the preparation somewhat. On reflection I think I enjoyed the exam but at the time that wouldn’t have been the right word. Looking forward to a weekend on the water

Several months ago we suggested to two other couples that it might be nice to park the kids with family and take to the water. Checking my email I realised that was back in July 2011. We’re now only a fortnight away. Helen & I will be sailing with the Scott Browns and Locketts in the Solent. We’ve chartered a Bavaria 38′ Cruiser – one which I’ve sailed before and the same model as we chartered in Greece this summer. Continue reading Looking forward to a weekend on the water

Night time anchoring vigil in Petalas Bay

We knew there was bad weather further north near Corfu and we could get more wind than usual that evening and we did!

It was okay as we ate our tuna and pasta on board and had our regular game of Texas Hold’em poker. Then all to bed by 2330 but the wind was really blowing by now and all I could do was listen to the noises of water splashing, ropes creaking and the boat turning from side to side on it’s anchor.
