I caught the sailing bug in 2010 and have grabbed every opportunity to sail since then. Since then my family has trained as Competent Crew and we bareboat chartered in the Ionian in 2011 & Croatia in 2014 having an outstanding time. I’ve competed in all the Round the Island races since 2011 (skippering in 2014 & 2017) and vow to enter in each of my remaining years. I'm a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore.

Arrival in Greece

Today was not the charter flight hell we had anticipated. As we left the car outside the departures area it only took 35 minutes to check in & clear security before we were sat in Café Rouge ordering breakfast. Thomas Cook were excellent and a stark contrast to EasyJet last year. The plane took off only 5 minutes after schedule.

Boat hand over was simple too and after dumping our bags disappeared to get some provisions. The boat was as advertised in excellent condition and the marina not too bad at all. We’ll be sailing “Takis” – a 38 foot Bavaria Cruiser.

We unpacked fairly quickly (loads of storage space) and found dinner in the old town’s main square. Pizza for Tom & Harry (ordering with out fresh tomato meant no tomato sauce! They won’t be doing that again) and pasta for Joe. Pork/swordfish Souvlaki, tsatziki & Greek Salad for Helen and I.

The heat is not as scorching as we had feared and in fact the night was fairly chilly!
