I caught the sailing bug in 2010 and have grabbed every opportunity to sail since then. Since then my family has trained as Competent Crew and we bareboat chartered in the Ionian in 2011 & Croatia in 2014 having an outstanding time. I’ve competed in all the Round the Island races since 2011 (skippering in 2014 & 2017) and vow to enter in each of my remaining years. I'm a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore.
First night on board wasn’t great. Quite chilly and my cold was quite disturbing. Typical – years without catching one and then the night before 9 days on board and I catch big one.
You can see the school yachts here. Mine is the one on the left and lessons are on the blue barge.
Well the first night went different to how I expected. It turns out I’m the only one doing theory this weekend. So I have my own boat for 2 days to kip in.
I joined 2 other couples for dinner and heard war stories from their instructor. I expect there’ll be a lot more of that to come. Just like skiing or any other specialist sport.
Anyway my cold is stinking and I’ve stuffed about a kilo of Vicks up my nose. Watching Casino Royale on my iPad and set alarm for 7.45
Just one more night before 9 days of cramped sleep. One of 4 things I’m nervous about. Settling down after a family curry to watch The Hangover with Helen.
