A beautiful day sailing across from Poros in Kefalonia to Nikolaos Bay on the NE coast of Zakynthos this afternoon.
We started the day waking to total silence in the anchorage on Ithaca and grabbed some breakfast. Harry and Joe were off the pulpit to retrieve the shore lines and once back on board Continue reading Kefalonia across to Zakynthos
Well, although there wasn’t much wind today we did a fair amount of practising. After leaving the marina we practised mooring up on a training pontoon (so called pontoon bashing) a couple of times, which gave the boys a chance to take turns in stepping off and get the lines secured.
Then we moved back out on to the Solent and tacked repeatedly. Although the wind was very calm it was very repetitive and again a chance to practice something over and over again.
Finally, we did a number of man overboard drills (which freaked Helen out a bit!) – our fastest time was about 3m 55s.
Then into Lymington’s Berthon Marina to check out what was easily easily the poshest shower block in the Solent.
We’ve just returned after a long days sailing. We spent the morning moving to a different (better) boat.
We had a load of safety briefings and Lou (the instructor) showed us how to do a few things. Mum steered whilst Lou and Dad operated the sails. We sailed all the way to Cowes (on the Isle of Wight). Continue reading First day sailing!
Today the wind was very poor so we took the opportunity to practice some basic manoeuvres in calm conditions. Pick up buoy, reversing on to a pontoon like they do in the med, and mooring up and slipping off a training pontoon in the Medina. We were able to practice this several times.
We currently moored up at East Cowes Marina. Facilities very good and tomorrow we expect to sail up the Beaulieu River and then across to Yarmouth.
